Deepika Padukone was born on 5th January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her parents are from India and they decided to go back to their own roots when Deepika was one year old. She is an Indian actress and a former model.
Deepika Padukone is of Mangalorean origin. Her father, Prakash Padukone, is a former badminton player from Karnataka. He is the first Indian player that won the All England Championship. Her mother is a travel agent. Her parents moved back to Bangalore, Karnataka, India when Deepika was eleven months old. She also has a younger sister, Anisha, five years younger than her. In high school she played state level badminton, but she did not consider taking it up as a career because she wasn't interested in any professional sport.
When Deepika Padukone was in college, she went to Mumbai to pursue a career in modeling. She was a successful model. Some of her campaigns were for Liril, Close-Up, Maybelline and Limca. She won many awards including Model of the Year award.
In 2006, after the success as a model, Deepika Padukone made her debut in the film "Aishwarya". Her debut in Bollywood was in 2007, when she stared in the film "Om Shanti Om". For this film she even won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and she was nominated for the best actress. Many critics believe that she will be the next Aishwarya Rai. Deepika Padukone says that Aishwarya Rai is a model for her, that she loves to be like her, but she has a long way to go.
