Christina Hendricks was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but she grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her father is British and he worked in the US Forest Service and her mother is Jackie Stept. She also has a brother named Aaron Hendricks. In Twin Falls, she began her acting career with roles usually in musical theatre. Her family moved again to Fairfax, Virginia, when Christina Hendricks was 13 years old. In Fairfax Christina Hendricks continued her acting career by appearing in some High School plays and local community theater.
While she was a teenager, Christina Hendricks began appearing in television. She was a regular in the show Beggars and Chasers (1999). She also had guest roles in shows such as The Court, The Big Time, ER and Firefly. She stared in the movie "South of Pico", Opposite Kip Pardue.
Christina Hendricks's biggest success was in the award-winning cable series Mad Men (2008), starring as Joan Halloway, the office manager of the advertising agency Sterling Cooper. She says that it was a fun movie for her because she plays an empowered woman that takes control and she gets what she wants. For this show she often asks for the next script because she enjoys reading them.
